Hello and welcome!

I am an anthrozoologist and more-than-human ethnographer. My work traverses anthropology, environmental humanities, political ecology, and art, communicating the significance of the kinship we co-create with our nonhuman companions and bringing to the fore (the sometimes troublesome) implications of our entanglement.

Exploring the tightly woven natures and cultures of multispecies everyday life, I gently pick apart the rich tapestry that we produce and re-produce through our historically and culturally specific ways of relating.

Academic works

My academic work has been published in peer-reviewed journals and blogs and presented at international conferences. Challenging disciplinary and institutional norms through my writing and art, my scholarship is both multidisciplinary and multimodal.

Values and visions

Love doesn't just sit there, like a stone, it has to be made, like bread; remade all the time, made new.

- Ursula Le Guin, The Lathe of Heaven

Kind, just, and fair research

I conduct research that is kind, fair, and just.

I foreground my anti-colonial, anti-imperialist, and anti-capitalist values in my research practice, participating in and observing the world with a critical lens, creative approaches, actionable plans, and due diligence.

Made with care (and never with AI)

I believe in human creativity. I believe in good things (like mastering a skill!) taking time and effort. I believe in working toward mutual thriving in our bounded ecosystem, not depleting our water sources for slop. Fast does not mean efficient, and convenient does not mean accessibility.

Fuck AI. Fuck data centres. Do not give up your humanity.

No bullshit

Honest, but not brutal.

Critical, but not cynical
(unless I'm in the depths of depression)

Clear parameters, boundaries, and communication for a high-trust, low-ego work ethic.

Artistic works

My illustrations and paintings are grounded in my ethnographic research, bringing more-than-human stories to life through art. I particularly enjoy painting dogs that I personally know: studying their faces and bodies in specific everyday moments and environments has brought about a deeper understanding of and love for dogs for me.

Public engagement

Making research accessible is important to me. I regularly speak on podcasts to engage with non-academic audiences and to share recent findings in the world of more-than-human research.
